Who we are
We’re the Dynamic Food Procurement National Advisory Board - a voluntary group of organisations committed to transforming public sector food procurement so it is more sustainable and supportive of smaller producers and suppliers. Find out more about our board members here.
What we do
We advocate for dynamic food procurement as a viable alternative to traditional public sector food supply chain models because we believe it can offer significant benefits for people, the economy, and the environment. These include reducing carbon emissions, restoring biodiversity, improving nutrition, and strengthening regional economies. Find out more about dynamic food procurement here.
Our aim is that by 2028, £150 million of public sector food spend will be directed to small and medium-sized producers through dynamic food procurement principles, with farm-level data available for at least £25 million of this spend.

We established the Food For Life program in 2010 to bring more delicious, nutritious and sustainable produce to the public sector plate. Since then, the program has gone on to support half the schools in Scotland and 1 in 4 schools in England.
We’ve recently launched a dynamic food procurement program of our own called Food For Life Supply Chain+. This program can work alongside caterers’ existing procurement approaches to bring greater supply chain transparency, resilience and sustainability by facilitating more SME producers to the supply public sector.

Pasture for Life supports farmers who are leading the transition to regenerative farming practices right across the UK. Dynamic food procurement enables farms to shine a light on the sustainable approaches they’re taking to prospective buyers in the public sector.
By providing an informed choice to procurers, we can accelerate the shift to wildlife and climate friendly farming approaches that benefit everyone.

It’s a travesty that most farmers like me have had limited or no experience of supplying our sustainably grown produce into schools, hospitals, universities and prisons.
We need dynamic food procurement to be adopted everywhere so that children, patients, and service personnel are eating quality, nutritious food they deserve, from great farms in every region of the UK.

Innovative solutions such as dynamic food procurement provide the ability for food producers to access local public sector markets. Dynamic food procurement systems overcome the current market access barriers for small and medium sized (SME) businesses and provide the ability for contracting authorities to purchase flexibly in a granular manner.
The NFU hopes that by delivering dynamic food procurement, more British farmers and growers can gain opportunities to supply into public sector markets.

Since 2013, EM has been researching and developing the technology needed to facilitate dynamic food procurement for all sectors of the catering industry. We must ensure the billions of pounds of taxpayers money spent each year on public sector catering is used to establish efficient and transparent short supply chains. They are an essential prerequisite to changing our food system for good.
